Borno Flooding: Nigerian Bar Association Mobilizes Resources to Provide Urgent Welfare Support & urges colleagues to support affected colleagues



Dear colleagues, 

The NBA is saddened about the flood that recently ravaged Borno State. We commiserate with the families whose homes, businesses and properties were affected by it. In particular, we sympathize with our colleagues who were affected by same.

We understand this unfortunate incident has caused unimaginable loss and hardship, displacing countless residents and severely affecting our colleagues in the legal profession. While we stand in steadfast solidarity with our colleagues who have suffered any manner of loss from this disaster, we wish to reassure you of our commitment to providing immediate support and relief during this difficult time. As you read this letter, our delegation to Maiduguri would have arrived not only to commiserate with you but to carry out an on-the-spot assessment of the damages caused to our colleagues in the city.

We will do our best to mobilize all available resources to offer assistance where it is most needed. Mr. Auta Nyada, NBA Welfare Secretary, and Ehi Barnabas Henry, NBA Assistant General Secretary, will be working closely with the leadership of the Nigerian Bar Association, Maiduguri Branch, to coordinate relief efforts for our colleagues in Borno State. Their mandate is to ensure that support is delivered swiftly and effectively to those who have been most affected. We will also be appealing to our colleagues who may wish to support this effort to do so by making their

Newly appointed magistrate Musa Semwogerere has been arrested for impersonating as a woman to take an exam for his girlfriend at the Uganda Legal Development Center (LDC) Lira.   According to local media, he was promoted to grade one  Magistrate by the  Judicial service Commission weeks ago.   Semwogerere, fondly  referred to as Mukisa Anthony, was caught on Friday, July 28, 2023 while taking an exam for his girlfriend, Irene Mutonyi.   The accused is charged with two counts of forgery and remains in jail until August .  A picture of him dressed as a woman with pigtails went viral on social media. Kekere-Ekun emerges new chief justice of Nigeria Tuesday, August 13, 2024 Justice Kudirat Motonmori Olatokunbo Kekere-Ekun has reportedly emerged new Chief Justice of Nigeria, following the retirement of Justice Olukayode Ariwoola. Justice Kekere-Ekun, currently the second most senior justice of the Supreme Court, would become the second woman to hold this position in Nigeria’s history, succeeding Justice Mariam Aloma Mukhtar, who served as CJN from 2012 to 2014.
