CONGRATULATORY MESSAGE ON THE APPOINTMENT OF THE NEW EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE AND GOVERNING COUNCIL OF THE NBA WOMEN FORUM


As the immediate past Chairperson of the Nigerian Bar Association Women Forum (NBAWF), I am deeply honored to extend my heartfelt congratulations to the newly appointed Executive Committee and Governing Council of the Forum. Their appointment marks the beginning of an exciting chapter, building on the strong foundation that has been laid in the past years.

The composition of this capable and dynamic leadership team reflects the remarkable diversity, expertise, and dedication required to steer the Forum toward even greater heights. Each member brings a wealth of experience, passion, and commitment to advancing the cause of female lawyers in Nigeria, and I have no doubt that they will continue to inspire and empower women across the legal profession.

I extend my best wishes to the new Chairperson, **Huwaila Mohammed**, who I know will lead with grace, wisdom, and a clear vision for the future. Alongside her, **Delayo Oriekun**, as the Alternate Chairperson, will bring valuable insight and support to the team.

Newly appointed magistrate Musa Semwogerere has been arrested for impersonating as a woman to take an exam for his girlfriend at the Uganda Legal Development Center (LDC) Lira.   According to local media, he was promoted to grade one  Magistrate by the  Judicial service Commission weeks ago.   Semwogerere, fondly  referred to as Mukisa Anthony, was caught on Friday, July 28, 2023 while taking an exam for his girlfriend, Irene Mutonyi.   The accused is charged with two counts of forgery and remains in jail until August .  A picture of him dressed as a woman with pigtails went viral on social media. LDC director, Frank Nigel Othembi in a statement said Semwogerere's offense was in contravention of Section 351 of the Penal Code Act and Impersonation contrary to Section 381 of the Penal Code Act.  Othembi said;  “We reported the matter to the Police and he has been charged with two counts of uttering a false document contrary to Section 351 of the Penal Code Act

Kekere-Ekun emerges new chief justice of Nigeria Tuesday, August 13, 2024 Justice Kudirat Motonmori Olatokunbo Kekere-Ekun has reportedly emerged new Chief Justice of Nigeria, following the retirement of Justice Olukayode Ariwoola. Justice Kekere-Ekun, currently the second most senior justice of the Supreme Court, would become the second woman to hold this position in Nigeria’s history, succeeding Justice Mariam Aloma Mukhtar, who served as CJN from 2012 to 2014. Born on May 7, 1958, 66-year old Justice Kekere-Ekun obtained her LL.B from the University of Lagos in 1980 and an LL.M from the London School of Economics and Political Science in 1983.
